Everett Alternative High School Integrated ELA/ESL Teacher Grades 9-12

 

Description:

The Alternative School Integrated ELA/ESL Teacher is responsible for utilizing research-based pedagogical strategies to teach and engage diverse groups of students in grades 9-12.   This Teacher is critical to the success of our alternative school program for overaged, undercredited High School Students.  The Alternative School Teachers must work collaboratively with the EHS ELA and EL Department Heads, Re-Engagement Specialist, and Alternative School Dean throughout the year to continually improve the experience and performance of our students.  The Alternative School Integrated ELA/ESL Teacher must be flexible and willing to meet the scheduling needs of students within the night school schedule.  Teachers should be well versed in Massachusetts High School ELA/ESL Standards, as well as Sheltered English Instruction (SEI) practices and Universal Design to ensure access to content for all students.  Teachers must exercise culturally responsive practices to promote equity and respect for all students.

 

Working Time: Monday to Thursday from 11:30 AM to 7:00 PM and Friday from 11:30 AM to 4:30 PM. 

 

Requirements:

-Bachelor’s Degree

-Massachusetts Teaching Licensure

-SEI Endorsement

 

Preferred Requirements:

-Master’s Degree in Education and/or English Literature and/or ESL

-3 or more years of high school teaching experience

-Dual Licensure in Special Education and/or English as a Second Language

-Experience working in an urban public schools setting

-Foreign Language Proficiency

 

Duties:

-Plan and facilitate ELA/ESL lessons for in person learning, remote instruction, and any hybrid model applicable to the 23-24 school year that are aligned with State Standards.

-Monitor student progress and performance on online ELA/ESL coursework.

-Use all available technology and virtual curricula provided by the district to create engaging ELA/ESL lessons that are linked with 21st Century skills and remote accessibility.

-Manage classroom behavior with Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies that motivate students and limit disruptions.

-Utilize inclusive practices and SEI strategies for students on IEPs and English Learners.

-Incorporate language activities into ELA/ESL instruction including Speaking, Reading and Writing that align with State Standards for Language Proficiency.

-Utilize available MCAS data to make instructional decisions that target the individual academic and linguistics needs of students.

-Proctor assessments for students in grades 9-12 including MCAS and ACCESS.

-Communicate with student families on a regular basis using culturally responsive strategies that promote two-way conversations.

-Employ a strong growth mindset and participate in professional development that is relevant to the challenges of urban education in order to close opportunity gaps.

-Collaborate with Guidance Director to refer students who are in need of Social Emotional support.

-Collaborate with Special Education leadership and teacher colleagues to review IEPs and ensure all accommodations are properly and consistently delivered.

-Contribute to school-wide initiatives and events which may be assigned by the Alternative High School Dean
