Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools Certification for Madeline English and Parlin Schools.

1. What is Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools (TCIS)?

TCIS is a crisis intervention program specifically designed for schools. This program was
created at and is administered by Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. This program came into
existence in Ithaca during the early 1980’s and is now a program that is administered in many
countries all around the world.

TCIS is an intervention system that has been proven to:

Teach children new coping skills to grow socially, emotionally and academically

2. How long does it take to be trained in TCIS strategies and physical intervention?
28-Hour Course

The TCIS system is among the most comprehensive programs for supporting and teaching
children and young adults who experience crises. At the training you will be provided with a
workbook and be asked to take part in many activities that involve interactions with your
colleagues. You will be required to engage with one another in meaningful conversation,
role-play scenarios, as well as take part in small group discussions and lectures. To complete this
course, you will be expected to pass a written assessment, an assessment of your ability to
conduct the Life Space Interview- a seven step process used to teach children and young adults
new coping skills, and an assessment of physical skills for physical intervention.
