TEACHER MENTORS 2024-2025 (Devens)
Reports to: Director of Instruction, Anne Auger and Building Principal
General Description and Goals
Teacher Mentors are responsible for the coaching and mentoring of teachers who are pursuing professional teacher status working in Everett Public Schools. Teacher Mentors are key components of the new teacher orientation process until one receives their professional teaching license. Teacher Mentors are responsible for training assigned mentees in both instructional strategies and curricula and operational processes necessary to perform their job responsibilities effectively and efficiently. Teacher Mentors are leaders in their respective buildings and should be exemplary educators and employees.
Teacher Mentors will be expected to attend virtual and in person professional development and check ins throughout the year with providers and the Director of Instruction.
School Based Induction
Mentors will be responsible for designing and facilitating a 10-hour school-specific induction program with the other mentors in their buildings for first year mentees. Mentors will receive support and resources from Central Administration to procure materials and create blended learning experiences using Google Classroom or Canvas to support first year teachers on instructional practices, instructional foci of the school, specific student populations in the school, and building a strong sense of belonging. Mentors will also be required to memorialize resources, reflections and notes from Mentor/Mentee meetings, when appropriate, as a living guide for first year Mentees in their buildings. Induction sessions can be a combination of virtual, synchronous, in-person and asynchronous activities. Principals will have final authorization on school-based induction program design.
