Madeline English Grade 5 ESL Teacher

DESCRIPTION:

Elementary teachers are responsible for utilizing research-based second language acquisition strategies to teach English Learners in grade 5 in grade level literacy classrooms in a co-teaching model. When possible, ESL teachers will co-teach and push-in during Math, Science and Social Studies lessons as well.  ESL teachers will work with their grade level teams to support EL participation and academic achievement by setting common goals and co-planning instruction. Teachers should be well versed in cultural responsiveness and strategies to differentiate for a diverse population of ELs including SLIFE and ELs with Disabilities.   ESL teachers who teach grade 5 ESL should be knowledgeable about early literacy skills such as phonics, decoding, letter identification, and sound/symbol correlation.
