Director of Data Reporting and Analytics
Location: Everett Public Schools
Reports to: Chief Technology Officer
Position Overview:
The Director of Data Reporting and Analytics is responsible for leading the district’s strategic approach to student data management, reporting, and analytics. This role will focus on decentralizing data reporting across schools, enabling staff at all levels to generate, analyze, and interpret data to make informed decisions. A critical aspect of this transformation will be the adoption and integration of Power BI—a powerful data visualization and reporting tool that will streamline reporting processes, enhance data accessibility, and foster a data-driven culture throughout the district. By decentralizing reporting, the district aims to empower school-based personnel, reduce bottlenecks, and create a more agile and responsive approach to data management. The Director will play a pivotal role in training staff, developing reporting frameworks, and ensuring that all reporting adheres to DESE and other regulatory standards. Additionally, the role will involve creating district-level dashboards and reports using Power BI to provide actionable insights for leadership, principals, and other stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Decentralization of Data Reporting:
o Lead the strategic initiative to decentralize data reporting across the district, shifting from a centralized reporting model to one where school leaders and staff are empowered to generate and interpret their own reports.
o Develop and implement standardized processes, workflows, and training programs that allow school administrators, principals, and key staff members to manage their reporting duties independently while ensuring consistency and compliance.
o Provide guidance on best practices for data collection, reporting, and analysis, allowing schools to create tailored reports that meet their specific needs while aligning with district-wide standards.
2. Power BI Implementation and Support:
o Spearhead the adoption of Power BI as the primary tool for district-wide reporting and analytics. Develop interactive dashboards, reports, and visualizations that provide real- time insights into student performance, attendance, and other key metrics.
o Collaborate with IT and instructional leaders to ensure seamless integration of Power BI into the district’s data ecosystem.
o Train school-based staff on how to use Power BI effectively for reporting and data analysis, promoting self-sufficiency and fostering a culture of data-driven decision- making across the district.
3. Ensuring Compliance with DESE Reporting Requirements:
o Oversee the preparation and submission of all required reports to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
o Stay current with changes in DESE reporting requirements, including SIMS, SCS, EPIMS, Civil Rights Data Collection, and other relevant state and federal reporting standards.
o Work closely with school administrators and district staff to ensure all required data is captured accurately and efficiently, and submit data to DESE and other agencies as required.
4. District-Level Reporting and Analytics:
o Design and deliver district-level reports that provide actionable insights into studentachievement, attendance, teacher performance, and other key indicators.
o Use Power BI to create dynamic reports and visualizations that can be easily interpreted
by various stakeholders, including the Superintendent, school principals, and central office staff.
o Collaborate with district leadership to use data insights to inform strategic decision- making and drive continuous improvement efforts.
5. Stakeholder Support and Collaboration:
o Provide ongoing support and consultation to school leaders, principals, and other administrators on their data reporting needs, offering expertise and guidance on how to use the district's reporting tools and systems effectively.
o Facilitate communication and collaboration between school-based staff and central office departments to ensure alignment and consistency in reporting practices across the district.
o Act as a subject matter expert on data reporting, analytics, and best practices, and ensure that school-based staff are well-equipped to meet their reporting responsibilities.
6. Training and Professional Development:
o Develop and deliver training sessions to empower school-based staff to take ownership of their data reporting tasks, ensuring they understand district standards and can effectively use tools like Power BI.
o Stay current with industry best practices in data management, reporting, and analytics, and continuously refine training materials and strategies to ensure staff are well- equipped to meet evolving needs.
7. Other Duties and Special Projects:
o Manage special projects related to data reporting and analytics, including improving data collection processes, developing new reporting tools, or implementing system enhancements.
o Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or Deputy Superintendent.
Required Qualifications:
? Education: BS/BA in computer science, data analytics, information systems, or a related field.
? Experience:
o Extensive experience in data management, reporting, and analytics, preferably in an educational or public sector setting.
o In-depth knowledge of DESE reporting requirements (SIMS, EPIMS, SCS, Civil Rights Data, etc.) and federal/state data submission processes.
o Proven experience in implementing and utilizing Power BI for data reporting and analytics.
? Skills:
o Strong technical expertise in Power BI, data visualization, and data-driven decision-making.
o Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Access, Word) and familiarity with other reporting and analytics tools.
o Ability to work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders, including district leadership, school administrators, and teachers.
o Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
? Experience with Follett’s Aspen Student Information System (SIS) or similar student data management platforms.
? Experience leading data decentralization initiatives and training staff in the use of data tools for reporting and analysis.
? Familiarity with data privacy regulations and best practices in educational data management.
Compensation and Schedule:
? Salary: Commensurate with experience.
? Employment Type: Full-time, exempt, 12-month salaried position.
? Working Schedule: Full-time, year-round (12 months).
