SCHOOL CUSTODIAN
DEFINITION:
The custodian cleans and maintains the school building and grounds, sets up equipment for special events, and assists school personnel with work requests.
PREREQUISITE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum: A High School Diploma, equivalent or relevant experience
A basic understanding of cleaning and sanitation procedures
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Familiarity with the Everett Public Schools
- Drivers license.

SALARY:
Salary in accordance with custodial contract (SEIU Local 888) and the Everett Public Schools.
WORKING TIME:
The custodian will work an 8 hour shift. Shifts are determined by the Superintendent of Schools or designee to provide the best coverage and operations of the buildings. Overnight shift emphasized.
DUTIES:
The Custodian shall:
- The individual will be responsible for interacting with the Principal, faculty, staff, and the general public.
- The individual will perform routine manual labor associated with cleaning, building maintenance, maintenance of grounds including but not limited to, washing, waxing, stripping and refinishing floors. The individual will also be responsible for cleaning restrooms, windows, doors, furniture, desks, walls and fixtures.
- Ensure routine cleanliness, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting for all building needs during the shift.
- Ensure the cleanliness and stocking of bathrooms throughout the school
- Daily cleaning of the cafeteria.
- Painting as assigned.
- Operate and maintain various types of grounds equipment such as lawn mowers, weed wackers, snow blowers, trimmers, and shears.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
- Must be available during snowstorms for snow removal.
- Performs work requiring climbing ladders, scaffolding and extended aerial platforms.
- Shovels, snow blows and sands current walkways, steps and driveways around the building.
- Inspects interior and exterior of building daily and advises on the need for repairs and maintenance.
- Aids in the operation and maintenance of building systems such as boilers, HVAC units, plumbing and electrical.
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- The individual must be punctual and have outstanding attendance practices.
- Perform any other duties as directed by the Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent, Assistant Superintendents, Director of Maintenance and/or Principal and Assistant/Vice Principal, in any of our schools
