High School Robotics Coach (FIRST© Tech Challenge)
Description: Under the direction of the K-8 STEM Director, coaches will work in teams of one or two to supervise a twice weekly after school robotics program for grades 9-12. FIRST© Tech Challenge (FTC) - FTC teams (up to 15 team members) are challenged to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format. The robot kit is reusable from year to year and can be coded using a variety of levels of Java-based programming. Teams design and build robots, raise funds, design and market their team brand, and do community outreach to earn specific awards.
Working Time/Modality:
- Two sessions per week @ EHS between Sept 9th - January 21st plus FTC tournaments
- Each session is from 2:45-4:00
- Coach can mutually decide with students which days to run the sessions
- Support K-8 STEM Director with FTC specific orders
- Work time includes asynchronous and synchronous work
Requirements:
- Current EHS Teacher
- Must be available for every meeting time, as well as Tournament Days (timeline TBD)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with robotics and/or programming
- Experience with guiding students through hands-on problem solving
- Enthusiasm for STEM and ability to model a resourceful, can-do mindset
- Ability to motivate children and adults to accomplish team goal
Compensation: $4,000 (100 hours, Based on $40/hour, include prep hours, prep hours should not exceed 1 hour per week)
