2024 School Year STAR Program Intern Coordinator


POSITION SUMMARY: As part of a DESE grant, Everett Public Schools plans to hire 4-8 high school interns to serve as
teaching assistants within the STAR After School Program at Lafayette. The STAR program is a year round after school
program that serves up to 50 5th-8th grade students daily. Teens will be hired to participate in programming 2x-4x/week
from M-Th 2:30-5pm beginning October 7th, 2024 and ending June 6th, 2025.


The Internship Coordinator will be responsible for recruiting, interviewing, training/onboarding, supporting paperwork
completion, confirming internship placement, and ongoing supervision of student interns. Students will be paired with a
veteran teacher and support their classroom for the entire program - assisting students who need 1:1 support, providing
behavioral and SEL supports when needed, supporting with general operations such as set up/break down of events and
activities, and will eventually co-develop activities and lessons with staff support. They will also be required to provide all
necessary documentation and reporting to DESE when required by the grant.
The ideal candidate will have experience supervising student work based learning experiences and will be familiar with
the dynamics of extended learning programming and 21st Century grants.

 

WORKING TIMES: 5 hrs/week for 30 weeks of programming and 20 hours of prep work for up to 170 hours total.

 

REMUNERATION: $40/hr, full stipend of up to $6800.00.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
? Lead recruitment efforts and supervise outreach and interview process for student candidates
? Ensure the hiring of 4-8 qualified school year interns
? Ensure selected interns complete all required HR documents prior to beginning work
? Coordinate with STAR Program Site Coordinator to place students with supervising staff mentors
? Plan and implement intern orientation for students and teachers
? Plan and implement skill building curriculum to support student interns in developing and displaying relevant
education skills - including relationship building, behavior management, lesson planning, and program closure.
? Provide ongoing observation and feedback to school year interns
? Provide structured, specific exit interview process to gauge student progress over the course of the program
? Manage payroll for student interns in collaboration with STAR Site Coordinator and EPS Payroll department
? Communicate with students and families on a regular basis using culturally responsive strategies that promote two-way conversations.
? Contribute to school-wide initiatives and events which may be assigned by the Principal, Assistant Principal,

Manager of Extended Learning and/or STAR Site Coordinator.

 

REQUIREMENTS:
? Current EPS staff member in good standing
? At least 2 years experience supervising student internships/work based learning experiences

 

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
? Master’s Degree in Education or related field
? Previous experience working in Extended Learning programs - after school, before school, summer learning,
Acceleration Academies, tutoring, coaching, etc.
? Dual Licensure and/or relevant experience in Special Education and/or English as a Second Language
? Multilingual capacity
