Description:

 

 

The SEL Specialist works at Everett Public Schools under the direction of the Director of Social Emotional Learning.  SEL Specialist will be responsible for working with building based administrative teams, teachers, and support staff as a resource for implementing SEL curriculum, strategies, policies and procedures as outlined by the Director of Social Emotional Learning.

 

SEL Specialist will attend monthly meetings/trainings with the Director of SEL to design resources relevant to successful implementation of SEL strategies at each age span (K-4, 5-8, 9-12). Through modeling work with staff and administrators to SEL Specialist will apply strategies and resources in practical applications and troubleshoot specific, school and/or classroom based challenges. Additionally, SEL Specialist will be required to memorialize resources as a living guide for all staff through the use of Google Classroom or Canvas to coordinate and guide equitable access to evidenced-based student support services. 

 

The SEL Specialist will oversee SEL curriculum, work in partnership with stakeholders to create a robust SEL professional development catalog, and facilitate community outreach. 

 

Requirements: 

  1. A Master’s Degree in education, professional educator certification, or licensure as a classroom teacher.  
  2. Prior experience with multidisciplinary teams focused on child growth/skill-development. 
  3. Supervisory experience preferred. 
  4. Experience with the common needs of students attending school in an urban setting.
  5. Strong background in classroom instruction and curriculum implementation.
  6. Prior experience engaging in trauma informed and restorative teaching practices.  
  7. Deep knowledge of the functions and resources of community organizations and social service agencies providing services to families and children in Everett.  
  8. Ability to create and maintain strong community collaborations.  
  9. Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends based on school, family and district needs. 
  10. Deep knowledge and understanding of and demonstrated ability to connect with the ethnic background of students and families served. 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  1. DESE licensure as teacher or director, strong understanding of curriculum/ curriculum implementation and SEL trauma informed best practices
  2. Foreign language proficiency 

Essential Duties:

  1. Build collaborative relationships with EPS educators to engage in SEL curriculum searches, guide implementation processes, and provide monitoring, including classroom observations and obtaining feedback from stakeholders. 
  2. Maintain inventory of SEL curriculum materials and support school buildings in ordering new materials as needed. 
  3. In collaboration with stakeholders, develop and manage a robust SEL professional development through modeling, co teaching and professional development
  4. Provide support in scheduling and technical assistance with PD vendors. 
  5. Facilitate the implementation of best practices for family engagement.
  6. Develop strong formal community relationships to build capacity for families. 
  7. Serves as the key support resource for strategies for SEL supports and engaging families. 
  8. Hold and model Everett’s values of growth-mindset, strengths-based assessment and rigorous, equitable standards for all students we serve.
  9. Actively promote Everett Public Schools’ values of equity, justice and inclusion. 
  10. Other duties as deemed necessary by the Director of SEL or their designee.
  11. Effectively communicate with all stakeholders
