DEFINITION:

 

The Assistant Director of Facilities is responsible for managing the operation of our facilities by overseeing maintenance, custodial housekeeping, and general upkeep of the Everett Public Schools Under the direction of the Director of Facilities, the Deputy Director will manage the logistics to ensure the successful operations of the department.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor’s degree is preferred, or a combination of education and practical and management experience
  • Massachusetts Certified Public Purchasing Official certification is required or must be willing to obtain certification within twelve months of the hire date.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Non bargaining confidential position

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least three years of experience related to supervisory duties.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

SKILLS AND ABILITY:

  • Problem-solving, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of custodial and maintenance departments and processes.
  • Knowledge of construction, maintenance, and security principles.
  • Knowledge of building systems and operations, procurement policies, and relevant federal, state, and local regulations. Ability to communicate effectively with and to motivate staff.
  • Ability to give oral and written instructions accurately. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks.

Facilities Management: 

  • In conjunction with the Director, responsible for oversight of ten school buildings, including grounds care, condition, and appearance.
  • Ensures that all facilities maintain a safe environment for all staff, students, and visitors.
  • Ensure that all buildings comply with all local, state, and federal regulations and guidelines.
  • Professionally and respectfully supervises personnel with the Director while following school written policies and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Inspects all buildings and grounds frequently to determine that high quality, cleanliness, safety, mechanical systems, building envelopes, infrastructure, and security are maintained.
  • Assist with managing and overseeing hired contractors for facility and grounds needs.
  • Monitor all buildings for fire, building, AHERA, and ADA code compliance.
  • Assign work priorities to maintenance, custodial, and office personnel in conjunction with the Director.
  • Collaborate with all administrators and staff responsible for programs using district facilities.
  • Oversee pest control for all buildings and grounds.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Assist with preparing the annual capital and operating budgets
  • Seeks quotes and reviews invoices for items required within the department.
  • Oversee inventory, bid process, and ordering of departmental supplies.
  • Attend meetings as requested by the Director.
  • Prepare and generate reports and other documentation relative to the custodial and maintenance needs of the district.
  • Interview and recommend the employment of personnel.
  • Evaluate employee performance improvement, conduct employee evaluations, provide support for continuous employee performance improvement, and assist in the employee remediation process with the Director.
  • Assist in identifying training needs and implementing programs for departmental personnel.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:


Minimal physical effort generally required in performing duties under typical office conditions. Employee may be frequently  exposed to outdoor weather conditions, including extreme cold, hot temperatures, loud noises, and vibrations from large mechanical equipment or systems.


The position requires the ability to access construction work sites and climb significant heights and depths. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hand and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, stoop, crouch, kneel, crawl, balance, climb, sit, talk, push, pull, and hear, including normal vision requirements. Employee is occasionally required to lift up to 75 pounds.
