Definition

 

The athletic trainer will follow the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics as set forth by the National Athletic Trainers Association. The athletic trainer will render emergency care, develop injury prevention programs and provide appropriate preventative devices for high school athletes.  They will do assessment, management, treatment, rehabilitation, and recondition of the injured student athlete to ensure safe reentry to play within the professional preparation and education of a certified athletic trainer.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Trainer will notify the athletic director and school nurse whenever there is an injury and fill out appropriate paperwork.
  • Will coordinate return to play protocols with athletes/guardians when an injury occurs.
  • Develop and maintain records of injuries and treatments for sports injuries
  • Will check in with nurse daily.
  • Implement a comprehensive emergency action plan
  • Will follow Everett Public Schools concussion policy.  
  • Will manage the training room 
  • Provide athletic training services for all home athletic contests and away varsity football games.  If a conflict arises between an away varsity football game and a home contest, the varsity football event will supersede
  • Act as liaison between family’s physicians and specialists, the school district, athletes and their parents
  • Coordinate with Athletic Director for supply list  
  • Set up fall, winter, and spring physicals with CHA
  • Communicate with CHA for student athletes being seen after an injury
  • Scheduling yearly appointment with AFI to get modalities certified
  • Concussion training for coaches if necessary
  • Creating a relationship with a medical office/team that will sponsor IMPACT testing for EHS
  • Will supply coaches with first aid kits & AED’s. 
  • These duties are based on the needs of the school and its athletic programs. The athletic trainer’s duties, detailed in this document, should not be considered all inclusive. The athletic director, as necessary, shall modify duties. The athletic trainer will be present at home athletic contests and practices and shall attend other post-season and home-hosted contests as directed by the athletic director.

Required Qualifications:

  • MA Licensure, NATA certified and in good standing with the NATA
  • First aid and CPR/AED
  • Knowledge and continuing education on DPH concussion management
  • Knowledge of a concussion’s potential effects on a student, and appropriate management of the return-to-school process
  • CDC and NFHS concussion education certification
