PRIMARY PURPOSE 

 

The CTE (Career and Technical Education) Director at Everett High School oversees the CTE program which includes administering, monitoring, and implementing the requirements for a high quality CTE program, and all grant requirements.  The CTE director is responsible for essential components of the EHS CTE program that includes curriculum, instruction, assessments, and industry certifications to meet the needs of a diverse student population.  Provides professional leadership and support for the CTE teaching staff and collaborates with administrators including the principal, vice principal, deans, central administration, and community members in assuring that appropriate CTE curriculum and instructional practices are occurring in all classrooms.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Master’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university in an education discipline, preferably in school administration.
  • MA DESE licensed in CTE Supervisor/Director with at least 15 additional hours of approved graduate credits
  • 6 years of progressively responsible leadership/management experience in CTE in a public, urban, diverse educational setting.  

REQUIREMENTS 

  • Experience teaching applicable CTE courses
  • Strong technology skills, (especially in Google Suite), and an ability and willingness to learn new technologies critical to job performance
  • Excellent communication skills, collaborative leadership, along with both oral and written communication skills
  • Highly organized and punctual
  • High degree of flexibility
  • Proven team player track record
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include remotely, evenings and weekends for meetings and public relations events
  • Demonstrate an ability to work well in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven track record of working with higher education partners to build dual credit pathways, articulated programming, and/or similar opportunities for students.
  • Conduct ongoing industry-based research to inform CTE program development and curriculum.
  • Is an active member of professional learning communities to support implementation of CTE program requirements, attends MAVA Conferences for Administrators, participates in MAVA Leadership I and II courses and assesses both short and long-term goals based on the recommendations of the MAVA Conferences and Leadership research.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Experience in creating, implementing and assessing a CTE strategic plan for the Everett Public Schools with the ability to lead strategic educational initiatives in the area of CTE that result in measurable improved student achievement.
  • Align CTE operations with the vision, mission, and strategic plan for the Everett Public Schools.
  • Demonstration of content knowledge and understanding of the MA Vocational Technical Education Frameworks and instructional practices in CTE.
  • Knowledge of and skill in the use of database, internet, spreadsheet, word processing, presentation, and related applications, knowledge of and skill in data analysis.
  • Outstanding human relation skills.  Skill in collaborating with administrators, teachers, curriculum specialists, and other educational stakeholders.  
  • Experience in the design and implementation of CTE curriculum as well as delivery of professional development.
  • Knowledge of current literature, best practice, innovations and research in the area of CTE.
  • Knowledge of industry trends including hiring, wage, and skill demand in the marketplace.
  • Ability to foster a culture of equity that is student centered; build and sustain productive relationships with families, community partners and district stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of current industry certifications for CTE pathways and evidence of successful student attainment of capstone industry certifications.
  • Ability to conduct qualitative and quantitative research and report findings.
  • Ability to read, interpret and communicate data to a variety of audiences.
  • Experience incorporating reading, writing, mathematics, SEL, into CTE course instruction and evidence of successful student work samples in those areas.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES

  • Directs supervision and evaluation of the staff and students assigned and/or enrolled in CTE, including all Freshman students in the Freshman Exploratory Program.
  • Serve as Perkins Grant Manager for the Everett Public Schools (e.g., write Perkins Grant, write and submit status reports by state mandated deadlines, budget management, distribute and track purchases, etc.).
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and training concerning CTE program design, development, quality, application, and approval to staff as appropriate.
  • Provides executive leadership for and directs CTE programming for all students.
  • Skill and ability to supervise, manage, and lead employees in a professional manner
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships, along with the ability to maintain confidential information
  • Works closely with school and district staff, parents, students, and community members to regularly assess the district’s CTE needs; develops short and long-term planning strategies for creating an optimal CTE program
  • Collect and evaluate CTE data both internally and externally and to present that data to administration
  • Promote and market all CTE programs and events in collaboration with the Everett Public Schools
  • Assist in the website development for CTE Programs of Study.
  • Expertise in formative and summative assessment practices.
  • Implement CTE assessments and use resulting data to grow and improve CTE programming.
  • Ability to create strong Program Advisory Committees for existing CTE programs and to grow new CTE programs of study.
  • Experience in teacher evaluation and evidence of successful instructional coaching.

INDUSTRY AND COMMUNITY RELATIONS 

  • Serve as the point of contact for local and statewide CTE initiatives.
  • Research and survey community business and industries to determine local, regional, state, and national workforce needs.
  • Ensure current and functional Program Advisory Committees for each CTE Program of Study.
