Reports to: Director of Instruction, Anne Auger and Building Principal

 

General Description and Goals
Teacher Mentors are responsible for the coaching and mentoring of teachers who are pursuing professional teacher status working in Everett Public Schools. Teacher Mentors are key components of the new teacher orientation process until one receives their professional teaching license. Teacher Mentors are responsible for training assigned mentees in both instructional strategies and curricula and operational processes necessary to perform their job responsibilities effectively and efficiently. Teacher Mentors are leaders in their respective buildings and should be exemplary educators and employees.

 

Teacher Mentors will be expected to attend virtual and in person professional development and check ins throughout the year with providers and the Director of Instruction.


School Based Induction
Mentors will be responsible for designing and facilitating a 10-hour school-specific induction program with the other mentors in their buildings for first year mentees. Mentors will receive support and resources from Central Administration to procure materials and create blended learning experiences using Google Classroom or Canvas to support first year teachers on instructional practices, instructional foci of the school, specific student populations in the school, and building a strong sense of belonging. Mentors will also be required to memorialize resources, reflections and notes from Mentor/Mentee meetings, when appropriate, as a living guide for first year Mentees in their buildings. Induction sessions can be a combination of virtual, synchronous, in-person and asynchronous activities. Principals will have final authorization on school-based induction program design.

Requirements Qualifications:

  •  Professional teaching license.
  •  Proficient or Exemplary overall rating on most recent summative evaluation.
  •  Experience using Google Suite and X2 Gradebook.
  •  Ability to utilize available technology to make completing job requirements more efficient.
  •  Ability to utilize curricula and/or virtual learning platforms for effective teaching, including for providing access to content for ELs and students on IEPs.
  •  Ability to read IEPs and provide mandated accommodations and/or modification for students on IEPs through instruction, student engagement and classroom management.
  •  Keen understanding of how to read and analyze student performance data, such as DIBELS, i-ready, MCAS and/or ACCESS.

 

Pay/Salary
Up to 41 hours at $40/hour stipend in one payment in June, 2024. Please apply directly on Talented.

  • an in-person Mentor Orientation on June 4, 2024 from 3:00-4:00
  • School Mentors meet to design and create the school-based
  • Induction program at a mutually convenient time
  • Submit Induction Program specifics and timeline to Principal and Anne Auger for approval
  • Attend one full day of new teacher orientation, Wednesday August 21, 2024
