What is Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools (TCIS)?
TCIS is a crisis intervention program specifically designed for schools. This program was created at and is administered by Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. This program came into existence in Ithaca during the early 1980’s and is now a program that is administered in many countries all around the world.

TCIS is an intervention system that has been proven to:
? Make staff members more confident in their ability to manage crisis situations
? Reduces student removals from classroom settings
? Creates trauma responsive classrooms that reflect Five Core Competencies of Social Emotional Learning (CASEL)
? Increase staff confidence as a team in handling crisis situations through consistent local tailored therapeutic intervention training and planning
? Create consistency in behavioral and mental health support through crisis intervention training curriculum, documentation and data collection
? Reduce critical incidents and decrease chronic absenteeism by creating safe and supportive classrooms and schools
? Focus on Tier I Individual Crisis Support Plans: promoting positive behavior approaches to reduce exclusionary discipline practices
? Reduce instances of fighting, serious verbal abuse, physical restraints, and assaults
? Increase knowledge of crisis intervention for students and the adults who support them
? Teach children new coping skills to grow socially, emotionally and academically
