ART TEACHER 

 


The Art Teacher should demonstrate expertise and knowledge in a range of art techniques as well as the elements
and principles of art and design. The Art Teacher is responsible for utilizing research-based pedagogical strategies to
teach and engage diverse groups of students in grades K-12 through the arts. 
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 
Plan and facilitate art lessons for teaching all learners that are aligned with State Standards for Visual Art. 
Use all available technology and virtual curricula provided by the district to create engaging lessons and
supports that are linked with 21st Century skills and remote accessibility.
Manage classroom behavior with Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies that motivate students and limit
disruptions. 
Employ a strong growth mindset and participate in professional development that is relevant to the
challenges of urban education in order to close opportunity gaps. 
Collaborate with guidance counselors to refer students who are in need of Social Emotional support. 
Collaborate with Special Education leadership and teacher colleagues to review IEPs and ensure all
accommodations are properly and consistently delivered. 
Collaborate with and co-plan with Special Education and ESL teachers to provide the highest quality
instruction and support for Special Education Students and English Learners.
Encourage student creativity and engage students through content and lessons relevant to their lives and
interests. 
Maintain great communication skills and the ability to foster positive professional relationships with students,
families and teachers.
Organize and plan daily lesson plans that align to the Massachusetts State Visual Art Frameworks. 
Create and manage ongoing student in-person and virtual art exhibits. 
Assess the needs of students and evaluate student achievement. 
Maintain a culturally responsive approach to communication with students, student counselors, and parents
on a regular basis through conferences, quarterly reports, and other means.
Work with K-12 art teachers to facilitate the annual Community Arts Night event
Attend all building and department meetings.
Participate in all departments and building professional activities.

 

The Art teacher will also support the building climate that the Principal and Assistant / Vice Principals established by
supporting all building and district policies. 
 
Salary: 
Salary for this position will be in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Everett School
Committee and the Everett Teachers Association. 
 
Required Qualifications: 
Valid Massachusetts teacher certification in Visual Art, PK-8, 5-12 
Knowledge of standards-based instruction 
Ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, parents, and administrators
Demonstrate a commitment to excellence, equity, and high expectations for all students with an emphasis
on building strengths that students bring to the teaching/learning process
Ability to collect, interpret, and disseminate data to teachers in order to improve instruction and learning 
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
