The Devens School Program combines the collective strengths of students, families and the school to develop collaborative plans, enabling students with significant social, emotional, behavioral, and academic challenges to learn and use skills to meet their educational goals in a therapeutic public day special education school program. 

The program is evidence-based with an emphasis on Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools (TCIS); integration of support and education including school based cognitive behavioral therapeutic support. The program strives to assist students in their social emotional competence and academic development to transition to less restrictive academic settings.

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION: 

 

The teacher will create a positive, highly structured learning environment with clear expectations and predictable routines to effectively deliver instruction to students. The teacher is responsible for assessment of each student's individual needs, individualization of the curriculum, development of IEPs as appropriate and coordination with team members to support achievement of social emotional and academic goals.

 

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  •  Current MA teaching license moderate disabilities special education and SEI endorsement 
  •  Knowledge and experience in special education teaching students with social/emotional or behavioral challenges

DUTIES:

  • Use all available technology provided by the district to create engaging lessons and supports that are linked with 21st Century skills.
  • Manage classroom behavior with Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies that motivate students and limit disruptions.
  • Communicate with student families on a regular basis  using culturally responsive strategies that promote two-way conversations.
  • Employ a strong growth mindset and participate in professional development that is relevant to the challenges of urban education in order to close opportunity gaps.
  • Complete IEP reporting, progress reports and necessary paperwork as required by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for students receiving Special Education services.
  • Help develop, revise, and track progress towards IEP goals for Special Education Students throughout the year.
  • Plan for and participate in IEP meetings throughout the year for caseload students and families.
  • Contribute to school-wide initiatives and events which may be assigned by the Principal
