STAR After School Program Program Lead Teachers 2024-25

 

POSITION SUMMARY: The STAR program at the Lafayette School provides a safe, inclusive community for over 50 5th-
8th grade youth to learn new skills, make new friends, and have fun in a supportive environment. The program offers a
variety of enrichment activities that include art, athletics, STEM and more guided by student interest. The goal for
students who participate is to experience personal growth, build positive relationships, discover new talents and shine like
the stars they are. This is a 21st Century grant funded program.
Lead Teachers will be responsible for the daily operations of the program, developing and leading engaging, hands-on
activities and ensuring students actively and positively participate in all program activities.

 

WORKING TIMES:
Fall Session: October 7- December 12th - 37 days (skipping Oct 14, Nov 27, Nov 28th) - total 92.5
hours
Winter Session: January 6th- March 20th - 39 days (skipping MLK day, Feb 17-20) - total 97.5 hours
Spring Session: March 31st-June 6th - 36 days (skipping Memorial day, April 21-25) - total 90 hours
In addition, staff will be expected to attend approximately 10 hours of Professional Development (schedule TBA) and will
have up to 30 paid prep hours (10 hours per session) to use over the course of the school year.
Staff must commit to working EITHER Monday/Wednesday OR Tuesday/Thursday OR all 4 days (Monday-
Thursday).

 

REMUNERATION: $40/hr per hour worked.

 

NUMBER OF POSITIONS: Up to 4 staff per program day.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

? Plan and facilitate hands-on, engaging enrichment activities that align with identified SEL and academic
outcomes
? Take regular attendance, document weekly activities, track student participation, and engage with families
and students in order to ensure regular attendance of participants.
? Manage group behavior with Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies that motivate students and limit
disruptions
? Incorporate Social Emotional Learning standards that promote self-confidence, team-building and
informed decision making
? Collaborate with multiple community enrichment partners
? Coordinate and supervise field trips and community events, including family engagement events and
showcases
? Provide scaffolded opportunities for youth leadership, voice, and choice
? Utilize inclusive practices and strategies for students with disabilities, English language learners, and other
student groups
? Complete regular grant required assessments and participate in structured program observations.

 

 

REQUIREMENTS:

? At least 1 year of experience supporting middle and/or high school students in an urban school setting
? Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with youth and adults
? Current EPS staff member

 

 

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
? Current Lafayette employee
? Multilingual capacity
? Certification in Special Education and/or ESL
? Previous STAR or related extended learning experience
