DEVENS PUBLIC DAY SPECIAL EDUCATION SCHOOL - HEAD TEACHER
The Head Teacher shall be that employee member of the school staff designated by the Superintendent of Schools to assist in the administration of the school.
PREREQUISITE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
? Minimum: Master’s Degree in School Administration from an accredited institution ? Minimum: Five years’ experience in Education ? Minimum: Massachusetts State Certification as a Principal / Assistant Principal ? Minimum: Current MA teaching license moderate disabilities special education and SEI endorsement
Candidates should possess: ? The ability to lead a complex, comprehensive school ? The ability to develop the full potential of a highly competent staff ? A strong background in curriculum with experience in program design, evaluation and management ? Knowledge and understanding of special education regulations, the referral process, IEP development and compliance ? A proven record in the management of students and student activities ? Superior skills in articulating the goals and objectives of the school to the community of Everett ? The ability to articulate the district philosophy in the treatment of students with disabilities to parents from diverse cultures ? Knowledge of Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, and effective teaching strategiesAdvanced computer skills
WORKING TIME: According to the Everett Teachers Association contract
DUTIES: ? Supervise and evaluate teaching staff in accordance with the School Committee Rules and Regulation, the Everett Teachers Association and the Everett School Administrators Association contract ? Be responsible for the evaluation process for all teachers in the building ? Conduct walkthroughs of all teachers in accordance with the evaluation process ? Implement and supervise curriculum, establish course outlines and education objectives consistent with community educational goals with the Director of Curriculum
? Employ an efficient system for pupil and program appraisal and make recommendations for changes needed to improve existing programs to meet the needs of students ? To evaluate student data with the teachers to make informed, instructional decisions that support individual student performance and achievement ? To be visible at district and community events ? Keep parents informed about their child ? Provide leadership and initiative for organizational improvements ? Review and approve the Individual Professional Development Plans of teachers. ? Analyze the building-based assessment survey yearly to improve specific instructional practices, school climate and curriculum alignment ? Oversee the curriculum alignment, in accordance with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and Common Core State Standards, with the assistance of the Director of Curriculum ? Adhere to the requirements of the Department of Early Education and Care ? Oversee the implementation of all Everett Public Schools district policies ? Perform any other duties and assume other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent of Schools and Assistant Superintendents
GENERAL ADMINISTRATION:
? Adhere to all directives of the Superintendent of Schools and Deputy Superintendents. ? Counsel building staff as required ? Promote a healthy and safe environment. ? Supervise cafeteria services with the cooperation and support of the School Lunch Manager ? Prepare letters, written reports and make oral presentations regarding administrative activities ? Attend and participate in various professional and in-service meetings that enhance the educational goals of the schools, as approved and directed by the Superintendent ? Supervise substitute procedures ? Maintain building inventories of educational materials, furniture and equipment
Salary: Salary for this position will be in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Everett School Committee and the Everett Teachers Association.
